What would have happened if Japan had not surrendered after Nagasaki/Hiroshima?

by Limbo365

I know there were plans to continue the war so I don't mean in an alternate history sense, my research has just failed to find anything about Allied plans post A-Bomb failing a surrender?

Would the US have continued to drop atomic bombs? Would they have considered the A Bomb strategy a failure and continued to plan the invasion of the Japanese mainland?

Hi there -- while there's always room for more answers, you might be interested in this section of our FAQ, which includes a fair amount of information about both the bombings and also plans surrounding the bombs (that is, the planned U.S. invasion of Japan and the Soviet invasion of Manchuria).
