I'm certainly no expert on the civil war or anything of that nature, but I can share some cursory research that probably isn't accurate.

Anyway, the star-shaped medal appears to be a Grand Army of the Republic membership medal, type V. The civil war Medal of Honor ribbon was shorter than this one, as they are virtually identical except the length of the ribbon and the size.

As for the other one, well I did say I was no expert :)
