Historians, can you help me recall whose handshake this is?

by NannuhBannan

After seeing some posts about Trump's dominant handshake, I was reminded of a politician (possibly a US President) who would shake a person's hand, get quite close to their face, and discreetly step on their toe so they couldn't back away--all while appearing amicable. I'm curious who this was, and I'd be interested to learn more about the power-play psychology behind it or if it ever had an effect on political relationships.

I have a black and white picture in my mind from history class loooong ago, and Google isn't helping much.

I'm almost certain you're referring to Lyndon Johnson. I've heard that too, but it could easily be apocryphal. He is certainly one of the few recent presidents who thought nothing of "getting into someone's space." This photo depicts neither a handshake nor a toe-stepping approach, but it does show how he could take over the situation. If you Google "Lyndon Johnson handshake" you will find numerous images, which may include what you're looking for (let us know if you find it!).
