Can anyone tell me who this figure from mid-century Chinese history is? Japanese coworker found this in his office.

I'm guessing Chiang Kai Shek but I also don't know what I'm talking about. The star on his helmet appears to symbolize the CCP. Could possibly be Japanese. Any information would be appreciated!

To me, as a kind of fan of Asian propaganda art, he looks more Japanese - the uniform resembles those on Rise of Asia's cover or this poster.

That's puzzling, though - I'm not sure why there'd be such a victorious-looking Japanese image. And the years are specific to the United States' participation in the war.

It might be that a souvenir maker was trying to depict a Nationalist like these fellows or these but got the helmet insignia wrong.

Oh, you might also get more luck at /r/whatisthisthing .
