Is there a connection between the "Eastern" Iberia and Galicia and the "Western" ones?

by Solahk

I have noticed and am intrigued by the existence of an old Iberian kingdom next to modern-day Turkey (then, Rome). I wondered if and how does the Kingdom of Iberia connect to the Iberian Peninsula.

Later on however I found out there was this other Kingdom: Galicia-Volhynia over modern-day Ukraine. Again I am wondering if there's any connection between the eastern Galicia and the western, spanish (?) Galicia

The region in Spain is named after a Celtic tribe that was known to the Romans as the *Callaeci. The Latin name of the region is Gallaecia, which became Galicia in Spanish.

The Galicia in present-day Ukraine and Poland takes it's name from the city of Halych (Галич) and the region around the city which is called Halychyna (Галичина) in the Ukraine/Ruthenian (Rusyn) language. The first recorded use of Galicia to refer to the ads was in the 13th century when King Andrew II of Hungary took the Latin title Rex Galiciae et Lodomeriae referring to Halychyna and the city of Volodymyr which is the centre of the region now known as Volhynia.

The shared names of the two Galicias appear to be coincidental.
