I know this sub has a reading list, but I only found books on there dealing with general civil war history. I'm looking for a first hand war account, reminiscent of Storm of Steel or Fire-eaters. Anyone know of any good ones?
Fighting for the Confederacy: The Personal Recollections of General Edward Porter Alexander has everything I look for in a Civil War memoir; good voice, sharp tactical analysis, and wacky anecdotes. Joseph Glatthaar really likes Soldiering by Rice C. Bull, but I haven't read it myself. Grant's memoirs are also very good.
