Why is France always portrayed as centralized state on so many maps throughout medieval period?

Yes it wasn't quite HRE, but I absolutely hate most maps portray France as one unitary state all the time. Why is that when France was so heavily decentralized until French revolution that so many of maps show it as such united centralized state similar to England?

Well the HRE was essentially a collection of many wholly independent countries whereas in France the territorial divisions were fiefdoms that were under the King's final authority. The exceptions are of course Savoy which was a completely separate country, and Alsace-Lorraine which was part of the HRE.
