If you're talking about the Aktion T-4 "euthanasia" program, they targeted people who were in state institutions and were completely reliant on state institutional support for survival. I don't know if that included some people in the situation you describe, but that by and large doesn't sound like the kind of thing that would land you in a institution of that sort by itself.
