What was the general reaction to the lack of elections in the United Kingdom during World War Two?

Was this widely supported by the general populace, or simply accepted as a necessity of war? Did any major figures give accusations of tyranny? What was the comparative reaction to the 1940 election in the UK?

There is an observation made by Roy Jenkins in his incredibly comprehensive and award winning biography of Churchill.

He recalls that Churchill was increasingly frustrated with British Members of Parliament who, despite the Houses of Parliament being such an obvious target for German bombers, were incredibly reluctant to move elsewhere for the duration of the conflict.

In the end Churchill had to make a rare executive decision and order them to relocate to the nearby halls of Westminster Abbey because (according to Jenkins) 'the last thing he needed was to find himself suddenly having to fight two hundred and forty by-elections'
