Why did Pakistan and India diverge so radically on the democracy front? Both the Indian and Pakistani army institution came from the same British Indian army? Then why did Pakistan have so many coups while India had none?

Indian army is just twice the size of Pakistan's, when you look at number of soldiers in it. But the Indian population is six to seven times that of Pakistan. So relatively speaking, Indian army is three times weaker vis-a-vis Pakistani army in their capability to control their country. This means they are less likely to try for a coup.
