Piggy-back question, how did it happen that Johnny Cash used so many lyrics from Leadbelly? For instance, Cash's I got stripes is - at best - a slight reformulation of Leadbelly's On a Monday. One of Cash's biggest hits starts with the lyrics "there's a man going round taking names", which is one of Leadbelly's better known songs. Just a couple of examples.
What was the context? White washing? Homage? Did Leadbelly know?
