These Old stones were my great grandfathers and when my father was clearing up some of his old stuff he gave them to me. I am curious to find more about them.
Im new to reddit, if there is a more appropriate place to post these do let me know. Thank you!
It's hard to tell through images but some could be cylinder seals, which were Mesopotamian identification tools. Basically, the owner of the seal would roll it out along a slab of clay to mark it, leaving impressions like this.
Did your great grandfather serve in some capacity (military, foreign service, etc) in the Middle East? Their small size and distinctness made (and makes) them a pretty great target for looting. It is possible your great grandfather was sold or gifted them, as was common at the time. If so, I would suggest showing them to a university or museum pronto so they can be analyzed and recorded.
