Looking at the books from the recommendation section, I noticed many of them weren´t written by proper historians. This sub-reddit commonly recommends books from authors with proper history-related degrees, especially if the book is done by a publisher that isn´t specialized on the subject. Which are the different focuses of the books recommended here?
The list could be better, but it isn't horrible in regards to the historians on it. Two of the items are primary sources, Benerson Little is good (though over-represented if trying to consider this a definitive list of books), Cordingly is significant for being a scholar who helped bring a little more serious of a pirate history to the general public, and Rediker is controversial but should still be considered a "proper historian".
If you want a better list, my Recommended Books on Pirate History. At some point, I will add a few more new publications to that list, but that list should be a better guide.
