Was World War One really the first "Total War"? What other wars apart from WW2 fit the parameters?

I suppose I'm trying to pin down the definitions of a total war too. Would you consider World War One a total war in the first place?

You could have a look at David Bell's book, The First Total War where he presents the Napoleonic Wars as the first 'total war' the world experienced. I don't wholly agree with his argument but he has some good points and does define what he means by the term 'total war'. Hope this helps!
