Were they in a position to significantly shorten the war had the decided not to be neutral?
Why didn't they at least join the allies in '44 'or '45?
And as a follow-up: was Switzerland ever close to joining either side?
If yes, why didn't they? Were those in decision-making positions unable to sway enough support to their side to effect their desired outcome, or was it a matter or both sides seeing the benefits of maintaining neutrality?
