Where did the English royal family (i.e. King, Queen, etc.) live during WW2? How were they kept safe from German bombings?

Hello, I was just wondering if the British royal family was living in Buckingham palace during WW2, as that would seem quite dangerous due to German bombings.

Yes, the British King and Queen both lived in Buckingham palace during World War II. Various MPs tried to get the King to evacuate, but King George VI was steadfast in his determination that he and Queen Elizabeth stay in Buckingham Palace, although most nights were spent in Windsor Castle for safety.

The stay in Buckingham Palace was not without its danger. On September 13th, 1939, two German bombs exploded int he courtyard of Buckingham Palace, and both the King and Queen were in the courtyard when it happened. This brush with death lead the Queen to proclaim that she can now "look the East End in the face". The East End had been bombed days before with over 1000 casualties.

The children of King George VI stayed in Windsor Castle for safety. Other members of the royal family served in an active duty capacity during the Second World War. The brother of King George VI, Prince George, Duke of Kent, was killed on August 25, 1942. While this was not due to enemy action, but the RAF plane he was in, while on duty, crashed in Scotland.
