Hi all, I'm doing a research question on the battle of Cannae and whether or not after the battle should Hannibal have marched for Rome. I do have some idea of what happened during and after the battle which would help my arguments but do you guys have any other advice of what to do?
heres what i know (pretty sure i know more but cant think right now and need guidance):
Hannibal destroyed Rome's army, so lot of Roman casualties
some of the allies kinda defected? not sure what word to use
one of the greatest military battles but huge disappointment history wise for rome
afterwards Rome was like panicing cause they got defeated and loss allies = less numbers for their armies ( this is after the latin alliance citizenship thing where they make other states give troops right?)
battle led to the change and reformation of the Roman army
something happened and Carthage stopped supporting Hannibal (guess this means lack of resources to march upon rome)
at some point after the battle Hannibal did march upon Rome but was unsuccessful
this was during the second punic war
read somewhere forgot where that Hannibal was like exiled
Roman battle formation was so bad that it was why they lost the battle
i apologise in advanced for the shitty grammar i have been awake since 5:30 am on Wednesday and now its 1:40 am on Thursday.
Reading Adrian Goldsworthy's Cannae is your best bet imo.
