Did the potato famine of 1845 help lead to the creation of the Republic of Ireland in 1919?

I've been told that the potato famine was the birth of Irish nationalism, but can this be considered a key factor leading to the cessation of Ireland from the United Kingdom?

EIREANNSIAN

Just an FYI, the Republic of Ireland wasn't created in 1919, it was formally declared in 1948, arguably created with the 1937 Constitution. It's predecessor was the Irish Free State, which was created in 1922.
