The english occupation of France

by doverty

Im but a layman in this area but the generall felling i get by reading about the english medieval occupation of some parts of France that the english was truly a force to be reckon with and my question is this. How is it that a small country like England could win against France which by what I understand was a bit of Medieval powerhouse severall times over? Thanks!

You are conceiving the Hundred Years' War as a war between two states. To call the wars as England vs France is a huge over simplification. The conflicts (which were really three separate wars as well as separate but closely related wars like the war of the Breton succession) were between the houses of Valois and Plantagenet (both houses of French origin) over who was the more legitimate successor to the throne of France. The Plantagenets just happened to be Kings of England. There were significantly French factions on both sides of the conflict.
