I have recently finished reading Robert Paxton's The Anatomy of Fascism which was actually suggested by u/commiespaceinvader here.
While looking at the rise of fascist movements and their attempt at establishing themselves, it also gives an overview of the Italian case - and by putting it in the general context, it serves as a good introduction to the phenomenon, one which does not require a lot of previous knowledge.
More focused on the rise of Italian Fascism, I'd suggest the works of Emilio Gentile; especially Il mito dello Stato nuovo dall'antigiolittismo al fascismo and Storia del Partito fascista. 1919-1922
These are more detailed works that may require a basic understanding of the Italian situation in the years leading to WW1 and the postwar period. Unfortunately I do not know if an English translation is available - I remember finding some of Gentile's works translated but I can't find confirmation right now.
Personally I am partial to De Felice's huge biography of Mussolini. But I do not think it is available in English and moreover it tries to cover the entire personal and political arc of Mussolini - thus going well beyond the scope of your question.
I also suggest that you check some of the answers available in this sub, if you haven't already. They often include sources that may be a good starting point to build your reading list.
