It seems like the Indian climate and soil is good for growing tea, and if the British economy was so dependent on tea and the East India Company needed money to pay off all of their debts, then why did they not plant tea in their Indian land? Why did they have to rely on Chinese exports and opium production instead?
Bristih East India company started tea production in Assam(North East India) in 1820. Slowly Assam produced a huge amount of tea.
