WWII historians -- did Italians use zeltbahn tents?

by RengarTheDwarf

I am trying to get a good understanding of Fascist Italy's field equipment from 1933 to 1945. One question I have is if did they carried German zeltbahns or something like it? I know this is an extremely weird question but thank you for your time and help!

Here's a short answer: No, they used square shelter-halves. However, they were used in about the same way as the Germans used Zeltbahn.

The term used to describe them is usually Telo Mimetico M29, which means "camouflage cloth model 1929", and specifically Tenda Modello 1929 for the Model 1929 tent you can build with them. Sorry to any Italians if I've spelt it wrong.

You may find a manual with photos here: http://www.milistory.net/forum/descrizione-e-impiego-telo-m-29-r-e-i-vt4272.html

Higher quality photos, though without the text, here: http://www.freeforumzone.com/discussione.aspx?idd=1554066

Hopefully this answers your question satisfactorily, if not, I'll see if I can find my (small) section of reference literature on the Italian army.
