Why does the United Kingdom pronounce "lieutenant" as "left-tenant", while the United States pronounces it "loo-tenant"?
Where did the pronunciation "leftenant" used in commonwealth armies come from? And why is the pronunciation "loo-tenant" used in America given the shared linguistic heritage?
