How thick was Ned Kelly's armour?

The armour of each member of the Kelly gang, Ned Kelly, Joe Byrne, Dan Kelly, and Steve Hart, was made from standard mild steel plough mould boards (plough shares) averaging 3/16 of an inch in thickness, reworked in bush forges, probably in different locations. i.e. Metallurgic studies of the armour indicate that the temperature reached in the re-working wasn't high enough to have been done in a properly equipped blacksmiths forge, and anecdotal descriptions provided by descendants describe the armour being heated in a fire and shaped over a de-barked, water soaked log. Each set of armour used at least six mould boards. None were exactly the same. Ned's used seven mould boards.

Ned's armour is held by the State Library of Victoria,

Joe's armour is held in private hands,

Dan's armour is held by the Victoria Police Museum,
