[U.S.]With more collaborated documents detailing land obtained by the U.S., is it possible to animate a map that "crawls" across the U.S. with historical accuracy?

It seems like every animation I've seen goes by giant chunks. I feel like with more collaboration by now, there could be a animated mobius looking U.S. "growing" before our eyes. Is there projects like this underway or completed?
