With all this talk of moderate rebels and IS and such, I was wondering if the US has ever funded a group of rebels who then went on to establish a successful government.
Technically excluded by the 20 year rule, but the US and NATO supported Kosovo rebels who have established a government. Likewise, the US backed anti-Taliban groups to seize control of Afghanistan in OEF
You could argue that Bosnia during the Yugoslav Wars as well.
