An interesting book on the subject is "how the French won Waterloo (or think they did)"
The author is a Brit who lived in France for many years, and it's a semi-historical work about how the French view Napoleon and his defeat at Waterloo. It's not a proper historical or impartial source so take it with a pinch of salt, but it's a good read with an honest account of contemporary views of Napoleon in France
This is a question that I have touched upon in several different questions.
Napoleon in France is... complicated but I don't have enough sources to say anything about his perception in the contemporary era of France.
