Did prior legal systems (like Roman law or English law have anything similar to modern sovereign citizens?

The sovereign citizen is actually closer to English common law than most systems in place today. Rather than having a set bill of rights, common law assumed that an individual had complete freedom of movement, speech, association, etc unless another individual could prove that the first individual's actions or speech infringed upon their rights. In recent times, most westernized countries have adopted a more rigidly codified "Bill of Rights" or something similar.
