What was the fate of the Japanese-Americans in Hawaii during the Japanese invasion of pearl harbour

I heard some horrific stories about the internment camp and they are were placed in these camps just because their race had started an attack on Hawaii even though the Japanese-Americans where as Americans as the common population living in Hawaii

If I recall correctly, since the japanese made up a such a large percent of the population in Hawaii, they were the exception to the internment camp order.
