Were medieval strongholds ever used and defended in post-WWI conflicts?

E.g. Were there any notable battles involving defenders defending a castle?

Monte Cassino in Italy would be the most famous one. The massive mediaeval fortified Benedictine monastery (founded 529) was the scene of brutal fighting in 1944. Another one would be Marienburg (Malbork) Castle in Poland, which was defended in 1945. In both cases the Germans were the defenders, and the monuments were reduced to ruins, but restored after the war.
