I have a question which I think is similar to the question being asked by OP but i'm finding difficult to word: i've been told that the ideology of the Khmer Rouge in the period wasn't really consolidated as such, and that their government was essentially arbitrary, with many similarities to a right wing dictatorship wrapped in far-left (Maoist) rhetoric. This is why, unlike Mao giving rise to Maoism (Mao Zedong Thought), there is no 'Pol Pot thought'.
I guess my question is: is this true? To what extent did the Khmer Rouge depart from the other 'communist states' (especially China) at the time, in ideology and praxis?
