What happened to the people of colour evacuees in WW2?

by eatmyspectacles

I am researching the evacuations that occurred in Britain during WW2, and cannot seem to find anything about what happened to children from ethnic minorities. Can anyone help shed light on their stories? Thank you.

There's a chapter in Stephen Bourne's Mother Country: Britain's Black Community on the Home Front, 1939-45 on The Evacuee Experience; as he says "information about black evacuees is limited and hard to find". Bourne has a few sources and some first hand accounts, the common theme of which is that black children were overlooked at reception centres (where prospective hosts were matched with evacuees) but, once housed, enjoyed the countryside in contrast to the cities they came from.
