Academic debates about real existence of Mohammed prophet.

by odirfontoura

I am searching scientific and academic material about the real existence of Mohammed prophet. I found references about Seven Kalish debate, professor of Munster University, who claims that Mohammed never existed. But I did not find any articles or books from this professor. My question is: this teacher is from what school? He is a post-modern revisionist? What is the academic consensus about the existence of Mohammed Prophet? Like Jesus or Moses, there is no proofs?

PS: I'm interested in academic debates and not in believers arguments

Thanks!

I would point you to an article written by Patricia Crone in 2008, one of the most famous early islam historians. She was probably most famous for the book that she did together with Michael Cook, Hagarism. Hagarism tried to approach early islam by only using non arab sources. It's conclusion was that there was it was an Arab-Jewish rebellion against the Byazntine and Persian empires. Hagarism was written in 1977 and after that she had adjusted her views because only using outside sources isn't the best but Hagarism provided an interesting perspective. So here you go, I think this is what you are looking for:
