In the days and weeks leading up to the surrender, there were a lot of survival methods tried out by various Nazis. Friendliness was tried, definitely. Others just tried to disappear, blend into the population and act like "normal Germans". The guards at some camps murdered political prisoners. Most of the highest-profiled enemies of the Nazi regime were killed in the months leading up to the surrender--there was a general feeling that these people shouldn't be allowed to survive past the end of the Nazi regime and revel in its destruction.
The last-ditch efforts to continue the Final Solution were primarily over the winter and spring of 1944-45, when the regime was collapsing but hadn't quite yet collapsed. Most of the death marches of long columns of Jews from one camp to another, or just around and around as the guards and higher-ups looked for somewhere to put them, happened much earlier. Almost all of the machinery of death had been captured by the point of surrender.
