First time reading Plato's republic and I'm curious: what's the deal with Glaucon and Adeimantus, and how do they actually contribute to the overall argument of defining justice?

I'm reading Plato's Republic for the first time. I'm curious, do Glaucon and Adeimantus really matter? As in, what do they add in terms of contributing to the overall argument of defining justice?

I get that they help maybe push the overall conversation along, but other than that, struggling to find what the contribute. Any ideas?
