I'm hosting a large Roman themed event and one of the elements includes a painting from 1624 that's in the Borghese. I know very little about music history, but the idea of hiring some musicians to recreate a few pieces that would've been played in that estate at that time is very appealing.
Any input is greatly appreciated!
which painting is it?
The famous composer Luigi Rossi was on the payroll of the Borghese family that year, so his music is a very safe bet! You would have probably heard baroque harp, archlute, harpsichord, and singing, likely with a string instrument on the bass line and perhaps with some violin interludes. Here is a recording to give you an idea: https://youtu.be/mLQHwDb1pp4 There are specialists who perform this music today, and if you let me know what city you're in, I can probably recommend some people.
