I vaguely remember hearing something about this and thought it was quite interesting, a more classy version of a last supper before being sent to the chair
Was it genghis khan?
This sounds very much like the story told about Theodoric the Great, leader of the Ostrogoths, who conquered Italy from Odoacer after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. Alternatively Theodoric was supposed to have murdered Odoacer at a meal, or tens of thousands of Odoacer's soldiers and Odoacer - regardless, Odoacer was killed and Theodoric's Ostrogoths took control of Italy.
