She said it was from our relative. It says "Cantu" on the top. On the bottom it says
"U.S.S. MILLER"
"DD 535"
Can anyone tell me about it? And I know this isn't the sub for it, but can anyone tell me how to fix it? It doesn't have flint or a wick.
I'm sure you already know this but there's a wikipedia page about that ship. DD-535 is the hull number. The "DD" signifies that it is a destroyer. As for "Cantu" I'm not really sure. It's hard to tell from the photo, but is there a chance it could actually be "Pantu"? A cursory google for Pantu throws up this festival that happens on an island in the Okinawa prefecture of Japan. The wikipedia page for the ship mentions that it participated in raids in Okinawa in 1945, so that could be related.
The lighter itself is just a zippo (or a rip off of one). You can easily buy zippo wicks and flints online, and I'm sure there are guides on how to install them properly. If it doesn't have any cotton inside you will need some of that too.
Cantu could be a last name. I've met people with it before.
Also congrats on the wedding! I just got back from my cousin's and it was nice to see someone else sharing the day.
