Questions About the Long Depression

by Infamy_Limit

Dear r/AskHistorians, today I am requesting assistance on a topic I have had trouble researching/understanding.

  1. What were the causes and or reasons for the depression? Why did it happen?

  2. Which nations did it affect? I have heard that it hurt industrialized nations and especially France. But in general, what nations were affected and how were they affected? Did the GDP shrink for countries, did Industrial production fall?

  3. How did the Long Depression affect South America? As they always were an exporter of resources such as silver, this would affect them quite a bit right?

  4. In my high school (US History), they teach that at the same time, America was in the Gilded Age, where industry boomed and there was economic growth. Wouldn't this contradict the existence of the Long Depression? (no this is not a project, just curious about this, my teacher never taught us about the long depression.)

  5. Why did the depression end? Where any policies implemented to prevent this?

  6. If you have any extra information or sources, could you share them, please?

Thank you for your time! Edit: Clarified specifics
