How is it that HMS Pearl, a 5th rate frigate of 42 guns, weighed 550 tons, while the Queen Anne’s revenge, another frigate that had 2 guns less than the Pearl, weighed only 200 tons?

I asked this question the other day and got a great response from u/ThalidomideSquid explaining me the different harbors in the Bahamas that could harbor certain-sized ships. u/ThalidomideSquid mentioned the two ships HMS Pearl and the Queen Anne’s Revenge, and it baffles me how HMS Pearl carrying only 2 more guns than the QAR, was able to weigh 350 more tons than QAR. Why is there such a huge difference in weight between these two frigates? I know that the QAR was originally built in England as merchant vessel, while HMS Pearl was solely a warship, so is it that the difference of their usages that made them weigh so differently?

Purpose-built ships of war during this era tended to be much more heavily built (not quite as much as the difference would be towards the end of the century, but certainly enough to make a difference).

Merchant vessels were built to carry cargo, while ships of war were built to fight. Thus the merchant vessel tended to be built with weaker timbers to be lighter to carry as much cargo as possible, while a ship of war only needed to carry provisions, men, arms and supplies for those arms.

The HMS Pearl seem to have been about 3 meters longer and 3 meters wider than the Queen Anne's Revenge, which would also make it heavier.

The HMS Pearl carried 42 guns - 18 9pdr guns and 24 6pdr guns , giving her a broadside of 153 pounds.

The Queen Anne's Revenge is reported to have carried 40 guns - but only 18 have been discovered so far on the site. It is possible that many of those 40 guns were small 1pdr or ½pdr swivel guns, that are sometimes counted as guns, sometimes not.

Of the guns recovered, it seems that the Queen Anne's Revenge carried mostly 6pdr guns (several of them cast in Sweden, which was world-leading in gun manufactury at the time).

So the Queen Anne's Revenge was shorter, thinner, probably less heavily built and probably carried lighter guns and perhaps had swivel guns counted in her supposed 40 gun armament.
