Not Star Wars, definitely, but the state-run film company bought screening rights to many foreign movies. These were dubbed into Russian with some controversial content edited out and then screened in regular theatres all over the country. Quite a lot of the highest grossing movies in the USSR were actually Western-made (see this [earlier comment of mine] (https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/4b2rzq/what_was_entertainment_like_in_the_soviet_union/d16pzb0/) for examples).
Single copies of most major movies were also brought in for closed screenings intended for the party elite or the film industry bosses. Come the 1980s, once the technology was in place, there was massive trade in VHS tapes that would be smuggled in, dubbed by some guy who had a smattering of English and then copies would be sold on the black market.
