My TA for my first-semester history class said the best questions are how or why questions. Thoughts?
Browsing through this sub:
The most effective way to ask a history question is to mention the time frame and the specific place.
Many questions in this sub dont have a detailled or proper answer because people tend to ignore this fact. Like the middle ages in Europe is a tiny event in history of mankind :D
To your question:
Every person loves something diffrent about history or finds something different interesting about history. Be conscious about what you really want to know. Are you interested in circumstances or zeitgeist? Do find the life of the individual interesting or the dynamic of the masses? Do you want to learn about a specific time or about a change?
How far could you step into the head of an individual of the time you are interested and how correct would the answers be?
