Ham Salomon and Robert Morris provided financing and sold bonds on credit of USA during Revolutionary War without which several battles and campaigns led by Washington could not have been won. And, likely, without which the war would likely have been lost. Salomon died at after contracting TB in Debtors Prison. Morris, who signed Declaration of Independence, died in Debtors Prison. Who were the creditors? Who were the judges? Was USA Congress responsible for their demise by failing to pay on bonds Salomon and Morris sold?
Huh? Neither Haym Solomon nor Robert Morris died in debtor's prison. While Morris was imprisoned in the Prune Street Prison from 1798 to 1801, he did not die until 1806. Morris's financial problems had more to do with land speculation and the political climate in England that stopped him from accessing particular financial markets. As for Haym Solomon, he might have recovered from his debts, but he died too quickly. He was only 44 in 1785, a time when most of the USA was financially unsettled. The USA had a major financial crisis throughout most of the 1780s. Some of this was because the Articles of Confederation made the establishment of a national bank and economic system untenable. Because of no real central government, European squabbling, England's retaliation against the US economy, and a general period of recovery from the war, the USA overall saw extreme economic destabilization.
