In addition to what /u/Dire88 said, I'll share my own experience. I'm an Australian with a bachelors in History from a decent university. As it stands, there are few "pure" history jobs. If you want to do "pure" history, you pretty much have to get into academia and beat out the masses of PhD students scrambling for jobs and funding. My solution to all this was to do another higher qualification in a related field. Currently I'm studying my masters in archival practices. This is a very much history related job, as you are curating, protecting and cataloguing all sorts of primary sources, often from the local area. But the benefit of this career path is that at least in my country, the qualifications for an archivist and a librarian are the same (though my specialisation means I'm more suited for an archive, but I still have an accredited degree in librarianship). So this enables to me to take up a job in a library where there are decent employment prospects while I try to shoot for more history-related pathways. To add to this, not all archivists work in museums and universities. At least here down under, there's a massive demand for hospital/health record managers, so again that's another (well paid) career path. Unless you're supremely lucky with your academia opportunities, I would advise you to look into archival courses. To me they're the perfect intersection between history and a "real job."
What exactly are your intentions? An MA? A PhD? Do you intend to stay near Orlando? What areas of study are you interested in? American? East Asian? Atlantic World? Public? Digital?
To give any accurate advice we need a lot more information. The only thing I can offer now is "It depends." In general, unless you absolutely need the experience you should be trying to get paid for any work you do and try to pad your resume with relevant skills and experience.
For example, you may not think a tutoring position in your university's writing center is relevant, but having editing experience is actually a good thing for grad students to have as it will help their own writing.
Give me more to work with and I'll do what I can. I'm currently in a terminal MA, work for the Park Service, and am applying to PhD programs in the fall.
