I've chosen to write about Martin Luther for a history essay as I've always had an interest in him and the Reformation. However, I've never read books that focus only on him, so I'd like to have recommendations for history books that include opposing or at least differing view on Martin Luther from one another.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
A classic biography to start with is Here I Stand: A Life of Martin Luther by Roland Bainton. Other good books include Martin Luther: A Life Reformed by Paul Robinson and Luther the Reformer by James Kittelson. There's the now-semi-classic Young Man Luther by Erik Erikson, which attempts to psychoanalyize Luther (in my view it's way off base, but it's part of the literature on the subject). There are, of course, a significant number of Luther biographies out there, but those first three are my typical recommendations for a starting point.
