I want a book that deals with history in a more comprehensive way. Instead of from the point of view of one civilization or another. I want something that shows events that happened concurrently. It wasn't until recently that I found out that the French and Indian War was part of the Seven Years War. I have no idea what to even look for but I thought maybe I could ask here. I'm not even looking for a certain part of history. I want it all.
This is going to sound very silly, but you might want to consider picking up Larry Gonick's Cartoon History of the Universe - and, if you like that, it's immediate follow up the Cartoon History of the Modern World. It's fun, eminently accessible, fairly detailed, and has a fantastic bibliography for when and if you want to dig more deeply into a particular subject, and he covers a good bit of the concurrency you're looking for.
