I know it is from WWII, I am pretty sure it is American, and I think it was involved in Doolittle's Raid. There are no numbers or writing identifiable in the picture.
That's a Liberty ship! A kind of cargo ship that was mass produced by the US in ridiculously large numbers (over 2700 of them were completed) for the US merchant marine as well as fulfilling their Lend-Lease aid requirements to the UK and the USSR.
We can note the obvious, this ship DID NOT participate in the Doolittle Raid, as it is quite clearly not a combatant warship, and one of any of a few varieties of mass produced cargo ships known collectively as Liberty Ships(though only a single specific design and its alterations were the real Liberty Ships and they were numerous, popular culture tends to refer to all the various mass produced merchant craft designs ordered by the US during the war). From the pic its a little tough to either identify when the photo might be from or which ship it might be.
However as to the raid we know the exact ships that participated, as it was run by the coming together of two carrier task forces. TF-18 built around the Hornet loaded the bombers in California and sailed for the Home Islands while on their way they were met by TF-16 built around the Enterprise which would escort her sister and provide air cover as the bomber on Hornet's deck made launching or recovering planes essentially impossible.
All told the combined Task Force numbered 2 carriers, 3 Heavy Cruisers, 1 Light Cruiser, and 8 Destroyers. Along with support from 2 Fleet Oilers to provide fuel to the force, the Sabine and Cimarron which while not combatant craft themselves do have rather distinct profiles as well. Pic of the *Cimarron around the time of the raid for reference.
