Glenn Miller was a famous big band leader through out the 30'2 and the 40's. His band were ambassadors for American values, playing swing music all throughout Europe, broadcasting music over the radio all throughout Allied and Axis territories. On 15/December/44 Glenn took a plane across the English channel from Britain to Paris, France. However the plane never arrived to it's destination, Glenn Miller was never seen again. What happened to him, the plane, and his band? Did it sink into the channel? Friendly fire, fuel loss, etc. ? Could an enemy hijacked the plane and took it into axis territory?
Unfortunately I can't give you the cite I want to, Dennis Spragg's Glenn Miller Declassified, because it hasn't been published yet. It should provide the definitive answer when it is finally published this fall.
Spragg however has made some selections publicly available. He has also given several talks on the subject, as well as NPR interviews, and helped produce an episode of PBS's History Detectives.
His conclusion is that the official story is correct. The Norseman plane Miller was on had some flight difficulty (likely icing in the fuel line) and crashed into the English Channel, on Dec 15th 1944.
Unfortunately the details about the evidence will have to wait until the book is published.
