Were Cold War-era weapons designed to be ultra-mass-produced in case a war broke out?

I'm thinking about the number of military aircraft produced during the Cold War (and after it as well) compared to the enormous amounts produced during WWII, but I believe my question applies to other kinds of weapons as well.

This is intrinsically impossible. Acquiring and purifying fissionable material is so difficult and expensive to make it impossible to assembly line them.
