People say most crops in the countries which were colonised by Britain/Spanish/Portuguese were brought in by them and those crops weren't native to the land? Is there any historical evidence for this?

People say this? I live in a Caribbean region nation formerly colonised by the first 2/3 countries listed. While commercial agriculture is rare, historical and subsistence food crops grown include: cassava, tomato, corn, peppers (chiles: sweet and hot), sweet potato, pumpkin, beans, potato, sapodilla, guinep, etc., all native to the Americas and grown here before colonization.

Okra, watermelon, muskmelon, pigeon peas, tamarind, etc., African, came with slaves.

Cucumber, mango, limes, oranges, sour oranges, etc. from Asia

From colonial Europe, onions, cabbage, carrots? Not much.

What is this based on?
